Investing in diversity equality and inclusion training for education providers is a critical step towards creating inclusive and equitable educational environments. By educating educators about the principles and practices of equality, this training program aims to ensure that all students have equal opportunities to succeed. The training will enhance the effectiveness of educational institutions' efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, contributing to a more equitable society. The training aims to foster inclusive educational environments that respect and value diversity, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to succeed.
1. Appreciate the importance of developing a diverse student faculty and body.
2. Have an understanding of diversity in all its forms including race, gender
sexuality, disability, socioeconomic status etc.
3. Have an increased awareness of personal biases and structural inequalities.
4. Be aware of universal design approaches for all.
5. Understand the importance of partnership and collaboration with the
employment sector in enabling students to reach their potential.
6. Recognise the components of building an inclusive educational environment which enhances student retention and learning.
7. Augment their cultural competence and responsiveness.
8. Have a contemporary understanding of disability and neurodiversity. Including types of disability.
9. Be aware of relevant law such as the Equal Status Act 2000 – 2018, Disability Act 2005 and the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs (EPSEN) Act 2004.
10. Know how to create accessible and flexible learning environments that
accommodate individual learning differences by examining examples of good
practice from across the sector, considering the physical, digital, and learning
space.
11. Ensure all students have access to resources and support.
12. Be aware of the importance of an education and training curriculum that
addresses the specific needs of a diverse student faculty by adding new
courses and adapting existing ones.
