Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging training in health and social care is fundamental to ensuring that all individuals receive fair, dignified, accessible health treatment without discrimination. This training is designed to equip health and Social Care Professionals and with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide inclusive accessible services. The course is applicable to mental health settings, disability, elderly care services and hospitals settings. The course explains what Irish legislation requires of health and social care providers, what is meant by discrimination, harassment and victimization outlining each of the protected characteristics as stated by law and how these apply in health and social care environments.
1. Recognise the components and benefits of building an inclusive health and social care service.
2. Appreciate diversity across society including how people’s beliefs, cultures
and values impact their health care decision making.
3. Recognise how diversity equality and inclusion can increase staff
engagement, retention and productivity.
4. Be aware of the rights set out under international human rights treaties,
equality legislation and the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015.
5. Be aware that cultural differences and similarities between people exist
without assigning them a value positive or negative, better or worse, right or wrong.
6. Understand how Irish law promotes equality and protects from discrimination, harassment and victimisation for the nine specific protected characteristics.
